Youth Leadership Program Importance

Franklin D Roosevelt famously quoted that “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.”. The youths play a vital role in the constructive process of social cohesion, economic prosperity and political stability in an inclusive and democratic way for a nation. Youth development is the need of the hour and we all should be aware of the facilities that youths are getting and the responsibilities they are fulfilling.

So what is youth development and why is it the need of the hour?

Youth development is a process that prepares young people to navigate adolescence and realize their potential as an adult. For a developing Nepal, youth development is undeniably essential. An important aspect of youth development is leadership programming. The leadership quality is very important as the youths should be able to analyze their strengths, their weaknesses, set personal and professional goals, gain confidence and stay motivated. Youths have the ability to guide or direct others’ course of action, influence people and serve their life as a role model. Nowadays,  students are highly influenced by a lot of youth leaders because they feel that the youth leaders hear their issues and prioritize them. So, I believe that with leadership programming youths will eventually become the pillars of our country.

The youth leadership programmes contribute greatly to the positive development of youths and their communities. It pushes the youths towards their goal and they learn to become result driven. One of the goals of youth leadership programmes is to teach mental wellness and financial wellbeing as both of those factors correlate and are essential for overall leadership development. This ultimately leads to more educated, confident and happier populace. One that has both higher financial outcomes, and also better mental health.

Financial literacy is an understanding of skills and knowledge that allows an individual to make informed and effective decisions with all of their financial resources. It teaches us to project values of our  money in the future so that we can make better decisions in handling them. Gaining such literacy at an early age will help envision our financial goals in life. Similarly, mental well-being is about our thoughts and feelings and how we can cope with the ups and downs of our everyday life. Therefore, financial literacy and mental wellbeing needs to be learned by every youth and every leader.
